Biography
Dr. Parama Mitra, Architect and City Planner, has 23 years of academic, research, and professional experience in architecture and planning. Her work spans design of educational institutes, heritage accessibility projects, transport master plan audits, and environmental planning including zoning atlases in Ranchi, Deoghar, Delhi, Kolkata, Udaipur, and Bhopal. She graduated First Class First in Architecture from Jadavpur University, completed her Master of City Planning at IIT Kharagpur, and earned her PhD at Jadavpur University on Designing Safer Public Spaces in Indian Cities.
She has been a faculty at SPAB since 2013, earlier serving at BIT Mesra and BIT International Centre, UAE (2005–2013). At SPAB, she has held key roles including Senate Member, Coordinator of the Centre for Human Centric Research, Senior Warden, Cultural Committee Coordinator, and member of academic and administrative committees. Professionally, she has worked with Mantec Consultants, New Delhi, and the West Bengal State Council of Science & Technology.
Her research includes 14 Scopus-indexed papers, 25+ conference presentations, 4 book chapters, and editorial roles with ABACUS and SPANDREL. She reviews for several journals. She is a member of CoA, IIA, ITPI, and ISTE. A frequent invitee for expert lectures and workshops, she has contributed to programs like NPCBAERM/NPCBEERM under the Ministry of Home Affairs.
