Biography
Sangeeta Kakkar is an accomplished academic, researcher, and passionate advocate for mental health, inclusivity, and disability rights. Currently serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at Shoolini University, Solan, Himachal Pradesh, she brings over a decade of dedicated teaching and research experience. Her journey in the field of psychology has been driven by an unwavering commitment to advancing mental health awareness, fostering inclusion, and enhancing the quality of life for individuals with disabilities.
Sangeeta holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from esteemed institutions in Delhi. To further enrich her expertise, she earned a Diploma in Guidance and Counseling from Jamia Millia Islamia University. Her academic excellence is reflected in her qualifications, having cleared UGC NET, CTET, and PSTET, credentials that underscore her dedication to lifelong learning and academic rigor.
Her doctoral research focuses on the complex dynamics of stress, coping strategies, and mental health among parents of children with developmental disabilities. This study area emerged from her deep compassion for families navigating the multifaceted challenges of raising children with special needs. Her research seeks to identify adaptive coping mechanisms and mental health interventions that can provide meaningful support to these families.
Sangeeta has published multiple papers in international peer-reviewed journals, including Taylor & Francis, on topics such as neurodevelopmental disorders, cerebral palsy, intellectual disability, autism, ADHD, and developmental disabilities. Her research contributions have enriched the academic discourse in these critical areas, reflecting her dedication to advancing psychological research and practice.
Recognizing the transformative power of psychotherapy, Sangeeta pursued specialized training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Her expertise in CBT enables her to address various psychological concerns with evidence-based therapeutic approaches. Through CBT, she has supported clients in managing anxiety, depression, and stress-related issues, empowering them with practical tools for emotional resilience and well-being.
Beyond academia and clinical practice, Sangeeta has actively contributed to community mental health initiatives.
