Biography
Prof. Dr. Saria Tasnim is the Secretary General of the Board of Trustees (BOT) at the Bangladesh Breastfeeding Foundation (BBF) and a distinguished obstetrician, gynecologist, and medical educationist. She has served government of Bangladesh in different positions and retired as Executive director and Professor of Gynae & Obstetrics of Institute of Child and Mother Health. Currently serves as a Professor of Gynecology and Obstetrics at Dhaka Community Medical College.
Prof. Tasnim graduated MBBS from Dhaka Medical College, holds an FCPS in Obstetrics and Gynaecology from Bangladesh, a Masters in Medical Education from the University of Dundee, Scotland, and a Diploma in Community Epidemiology from Imperial College, England.
As Secretary General of BBF, Prof. Tasnim has been instrumental in promoting, protecting and support breastfeeding and maternal and adolescent nutrition. She is an advocate of Oketani Breast Massage Technique, coordinating with Japanese experts and working for sustenance of the technique and its availability all over the country. This technique has been integrated into BBF’s Lactation Management Centers (LMCs) to support breastfeeding mothers with difficulties and develop experts throughout the country. She has been the principal investigator of about 15 community based researches.
